Today is the Fellows Graduation (4/8/18). Check out our IG story and live to watch the ceremony 👨🎓👩🎓🎓
As our CTL Fellows graduation closes in, I firmly believe that the CTL program has built and refined my leadership skills. Being in this program has been a wonderful experience that I will never forget. I plan to use my leadership skills in a wider setting immediately, as I am now the President of Roosevelt High School’s Key Club. If you are considering joining the Fellows program, I strongly recommend it! You will not regret applying! Mahalo for following along in my #CTLIGTakeover and have a great night! #LeadLocalHI #leadership
A huge part of the CTL Fellows program is the project groups, and I am part of the Mental Wealth group. Being in this group definitely tested my leadership skills in the beginning, since I’ve never seen my colleagues before Fellows started. It surely feels different compared to your normal school project group. As the CTL year progressed, however, we’ve gotten to know each other much better through the Fellows sessions and group calls. Our main pitch, the 10 Day Challenge, includes everyday tasks aimed towards improving the mental health of those who participate. The responses we have gotten so far have been great! I am so thankful and blessed to be in a group with such wonderful individuals.
Before I joined the CTL Fellows program, I had several distinctive definitions of leadership in my mind. I always saw myself as a leader, but only in a smaller setting. Learning about the Five Main Practices of Leadership through multiple Fellows sessions have really helped to mold me into the leader I wish to be. Leadership Academy was an eye-opening experience, as we met with several influential people living in Hawaii and the path they took to get to where they are now. Also, it was a great time to bond with my fellow CTL Fellows!!
Hey everyone! My name is Allan Chen, a Fellow in the CTL program and a junior at Roosevelt High School. In my spare time, I love to hike and go to the beach with my friends. Today I will be doing a #CTLIGTakeover to share about my leadership journey!!
Happy Easter from the CTL team!
Whenever I need a break from everything, I go to the beach to relax. The sea water does wonders when your tired! As a local leader I really enjoy being able to impart the Aloha spirit because it is such a unique part of Hawaii. I know that wherever I will go in life, I will be able take that Aloha with me and share it with the rest of the world. It's been really awesome sharing my views on leadership with all of you. I hope you enjoyed my #CTLigtakeover !
When I am not in school or working, I am either exploring new places to eat, listening to Kpop or free hand drawing. I love Korean, Thai, Filipino food and anything sweet. In addition to eating food I also like to bake things like brownies or cupcakes. When the days get busier it's always good to treat yourself to something nice once in a while.
Leadership isn't a trait someone is born with. It is a culmination of learning from mistakes, holding on to a positive view even if things don't go as planned, and having fun with everyone you work with. When I joined CTL, the idea of leadership was very vague to me.
When we were offered the opportunity to make a difference, my group decided on the idea of Roosevelt Appreciation Day (RAD). The first thing that may come to a student's mind when they hear "school" is that no one wants to go to school. But we observed that many of the teacher's at Roosevelt were very passionate about their teaching. Many of them would come to school very early to prep for their classes and stay late after school to help students. Despite these efforts, there were still students who didn't realize that teaching wasn't only a job to these teachers, it was their way of giving back to students. That was how we created RAD, it would be a day for students and teachers to come together and appreciate one another.
RAD took a lot of careful planning but it was worth it. I have never been happier to see the looks on all the teachers faces when they entered the cafeteria to find all the tables decorated and the program that we had set up.
One of the most important lessons I learned that day was that we can never be too appreciative with the people who make such a big impact in our lives. It doesn't hurt to say a simple hi to a teacher when you walk down the hallways or help them open their door. Thank you is the two best words you can give them.
